The United Language Immersion Program

Creating a Community of Learners

Mission and Curriculum
We are parents and teachers working together to create a space for children to learn Spanish, grow, and express themselves naturally through language.

TULIP is a language immersion program designed to allow learning naturally. We incorporate reading and writing Spanish with teacher-led small group daily language exercises.  Students explore the Spanish language through daily activities as well as some long-term Spanish projects.

Language immersion is proven to be the best and most effective language learning mechanism. With TULIP, students will put away their things after school, wash their hands, enjoy snack time then jump into at least two daily lessons with fun and caring teachers.

Students work in small groups (1 teacher:10 student ratio) to have the opportunity to use Spanish as they interact, socialize and work together on specific lessons each day.

We have a lot of fun too!

"I have so much fun, I never want to leave!"
~ Liv (Reagan) TULIP student

Who we are and why TULIP
The United Language Immersion Program is the dream of two founders from different worlds. Liz Blanco di Sipio, a mother, teacher and textile artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina and Christie Kuropatwa, a mother, teacher, artist, and writer from Selma, Alabama.  Liz and Christie met in Candler Park, as moms at the local elementary school and Girls on the Run coaches.

Liz is is the curriculum creator and lead teacher at TULIP. She is a textile designer and teacher with a passion for children and building community. Originally from Argentina, Liz has lived and studied in Buenos Aires (University of Buenos Aires), Boston (School of Fashion Design), and New York (Parson's School of Design) before settling in Atlanta.

Liz has been creating and teaching students of all ages for more than 18 years. She has helped create several language and arts programs. Liz has taught many classes over the years in addition to her pre-school teaching experience such as; Knitting and Textiles, Spanish Immersion, Art in Spanish, Spanish tutoring and more. She lives in Kirkwood with her two children, a large loom and big lovable dog Tootsie.

Christie is the director and administrator of TULIP. She has been teaching arts and piano and creating classes in the Atlanta and Decatur, GA areas since 1998. With a degree in psychology with a concentration in early childhood education and graduate work in organizational development, Christie loves building communities of learners by working with talented and compassionate people and helping them bring their talents and passions to others.

Christie has been teaching arts and music in Atlanta and Decatur since 1999. Christie is the creator and currently the Director of a small company teaching arts to children in the community. She also volunteers in many capacities. Christie currently sits on the Alum Advisory Committee of Oakhurst Cooperative Preschool and is a part of the Leadership Team of the Decatur Parent Network. Christie lives in Decatur, GA with her husband (a music teacher) and two daughters, all artists in their own right.

As founders, both Liz and Christie believe nurturing and supporting learners is the most important aspect of any education. Creating a warm, compassionate and supportive atmosphere by which all members of the community can relax, have fun and learn naturally is the primary intention of TULIP.

We found Christie to be an excellent communicator and a compassionate teacher. She listened to our child and worked with him to find what he needed when he was stuck and frustrated, on more than one occasion. She helped him push through and feel great about his work in the class. We are grateful for her efforts and genuine concern for her students.
